今年も炭焼き釜に火が入りました。
落ち葉を踏みしめてブナ林の中へ入ると炭焼き小屋が、炭焼きの様子を見学。
土と石で積み上げられた釜の中、ぎっしりと詰まったブナや樫の木、詰める作業は重労働です。
丹念に恥から隙間なく建てて詰められた木に火が回ると、釜に蓋、空気孔を確保してびっちりと密閉されます。石と土と材木で組み合わせられ蓋が閉じられ一昼夜！！！
空気孔の穴を調節しながら見張り番、釜の後の煙突からは真っ白な煙がモクモクと上がっています。
この煙が透明になって見えなくなると、焼き上がり！！
翌日、釜から焼きあがった炭を出し、土をかけて真っ赤になった火が消えるのを待ちます。
時間と、手間と、労力と・・・・、何よりも昔の人の工夫と知恵に感心させられます。

@Dan I get your drift on where you were going there. I often think of my past and use it as a means to analyze where I am and where I want to get to. Where I struggel is balancing it all out. How do you guys balance things out?
